Herring data found in STOCKEFF is incomplete. In comlandr the herring data is replaced with a separate data pull from the State of Maine. See get_herring_data().

  • Since the database has different (or missing) field names that are present in the data pull from STOCKEFF (get_comland_raw_data()) several fields are added with default values:

    • MARKET_CODE = “UN”
    • TONCL2 = 30
    • MESHCAT = “LG”
  • The state of Maine herring data does not include species value (SPPVALUE). However STOCKEFF does. comlandr uses the species value in the incomplete STOCKEFF data to calculate the value per metric ton for each YEAR, MONTH. This value is then applied to the true landed herring to estimate the value.

  • A similar process is undertaken to assign utility codes UTILCD to landings by YEAR,MONTH in the state of Maine data. Herring is caught and processed for multiple uses as defined by UTILCD in STOCKEFF. The proportions of landings by utility code in STOCKEFF are applied to the true landings.

  • Landings from the State of Maine include a field to denote if the landings are from US vessels or non US vessels. This is used to create a boolean field, US
